About the event
Steel metal clay is a hidden gem in the star-studded world of silver, bronze, and copper clays. While its firing temperature is higher, its working
techniques are identical to other metal clays. However, unlike many other metal clay formulas, steel clay comes in a powder form, requiring the addition of water to bring it to a flexible working condition. Fired steel clay, like other forms of steel, will rust if not protected, but (no worries) there are several finishing options available to prevent oxidation.
Class projects include elementary designs, followed by more complicated hollow form construction. This class not only offers students an introduction to the excitement of steel clay, but also acts as a good refresher for those whose metal clay skills have become a little (pun intended) rusty.
SKILL LEVEL: All skill levels welcome. Some experience in metal clay is helpful, but not required.
